  • Going to Echo Rock can be an exciting and thrilling experience.

The Journey to Echo Rock

We started our trip from HPF, Ooty, where we live. We wanted to reach Echo Rock before sunrise, so we woke up at 4 am and took our scooter. It was very cold, so we wore warm clothes and helmets. We took a short cut through Emerald College Road, which was a narrow and curvy road.

We reached Finger Post in about 10 minutes, and then we took another short cut to Coonoor, which was about 18 km from there. This road was even narrower and more curvy, and it went through a thick forest. We had to be very careful, as we did not know what kind of animals we might meet on the way.

And guess what? We met two porcupines on the road, who were ready to attack us with their sharp quills. We avoided the first one, but the second one came out of nowhere and I had to hit the brake. We slipped and fell from the scooter, because the road was wet. I hurt my knees and shoulder, but I did not give up. I got up, checked the scooter, and continued the journey. My brother was fine.

We reached Coonoor in about 40 minutes, and then we followed the signs to Echo Rock, which was about 11 km from the Coonoor Bus Stand. The road was better, but it was still uphill and twisty. We also saw many bisons on the way, but we did not have any trouble with them. We reached near Echo Rock at around 5.20 am, and we parked the scooter on a safe part of the road.

The Trek

We followed a narrow path that led us through the tea estate and forest. We also saw some elephant tracks, which made us wonder if we would see any elephants on the way back. We reached the view point in about 15 minutes and it was still dark.

Experience

We saw the sun rising from the horizon, and we saw the clouds floating below us.

The view was magical. We felt like we were on top of the world, and we could not believe our eyes.

I took out the phones and cameras, and started taking pictures and videos of the view while he was happy to sit by and feel the magic.
